Easy Kid-Friendly Snack for Pentecost

Pentecost is often referred to as the birthday of the Church, so we celebrated with “tongues of fire” cupcakes!

In the book of Acts, we see at Pentecost, the Apostles were gathered together in one place and suddenly a sound came roaring from heaven like a rushing wind, filling the entire house where they were sitting. And tongues of fire appeared, and one sat upon each one of Apostles. Today we not only remember the decent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, but also the gift of the Holy Spirit in our hearts that we receive at baptism.

Easy peasy

As a mom with 3 little kids, I need easy and simple ideas and this boxed cupcakes and canned frosting fits the bill. If you’re wanting to cut corners even more, buy cupcakes at your local grocery store with yellow frosting (can likely request this) and add strawberries to the top- and you’re DONE! Or maybe you’re in a different season where making cupcakes and frosting from scratch is within your ability- I say go for it! Either way, this snack is a delicious reminder and fun way to remember this important Feast Day. Check out this easy kid-friendly snack for Pentecost: Tongues of Fire Cupcakes!

RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 1 boxed cupcake mix of choice

  • 1-3 eggs *

  • Vegetable oil *

  • Yellow frosting

  • 1 lb strawberries

*recipes vary - see box instructions for ingredients

For our cupcakes, my girls chose strawberry flavored cake mix and instead of making our own yellow frosting, we chose some yellow lemon frosting. It was not as yellow as I would have liked, but it was simple and easy, so we opted for that!

Directions

1.Make cupcakes according to package directions

2. After the cupcakes have cooled down for 10 mins, frost them using yellow frosting

3. Prepare strawberries by cutting off the tops and making four shallow slices (see picture), keeping the strawberry in one piece

4. Top cupcakes with sliced strawberries

5. Eat and enjoy! It’s that simple! It’s the perfect symbolic dessert or snack to celebrate the birthday of the Church!
