January Recipe: Check out this delicious “bite-size tradition” of lenten soup for the feast of St Anthony of the Desert Monastery Soup! This year, his feast lands on a Wednesday so it’s very fitting to make a lenten soup on his feast!

Each month I will be releasing a new recipe to help families live out the Liturgical Year in their kitchens! The series is called “bite-size traditions” kitchen series!

St Anthony was a Christmas monk who lived in the 3rd Century in Egypt. Upon hearing the reading of Matthew 19:21, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasures in heaven; and come, follow Me" St. Anthony felt that passage was spoken directly to him. He sold everything he owned, gave the proceeds to the poor, and left the city behind to live as a monastic (hermit) in the desert. He is most known for his victory over many great temptations in the desert, his defense of Orthodoxy against Arianism, and he is known as the Father of Monastics. His feast day is January 17th (30th).
