Christ Amongst Us Book Review
Divine Liturgy Book for Children 7+ (Including Teens)
My oldest turned 7 this year, and up until this point we have been using a very simple book to help guide her through the Divine Liturgy. I was searching for another book that would have a little more depth to help her understand the various parts of the Liturgy but also be age appropriate. I was so pleased when I discovered Christ Amongst Us by Newrome Press. This book is both an easy to understand commentary on the Divine Liturgy according to the writings of the Holy Fathers and includes the text for the Divine Liturgy according to St John Chrysostom ☦️ Not only does it suffice for education purposes of learning the Liturgy better, but it also serves as a companion during the service itself so she can follow along!
I would recommend this book for children 7+ and I’m including teens as well. In fact, I know many adults who would enjoy this book (myself included). Geared towards a younger audience, it is a based off the book The Divine Liturgy: A Commentary in Light of the Fathers by Hieromonk Gregorios (also available through Newrome Press). This is also a fantastic resource for adults and older teens!
This book seeks to answer the following questions:
• What is the Divine Liturgy?
• What happens if we are lazy about attending Church?
• What happens during the Proskomide?
• Why is the Gospel Book closed during the Small Entrance?
• What does the Great Entrance symbolize?
• What is the Trisagion Hymn?
• What doors are referred to in the exclamation “The doors, the doors, in wisdom let us be attentive”?
• When are the bread and wine transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ?
• What is the wonder-working power of Holy Communion?
• What is antidoron?

I highly recommend this book for those seeking to learn more about the Divine Liturgy or who plan to teach about the Divine service to children, and it also serves as a wonderful resource to have on hand for your children to follow along during the service.
Overall, it’s a fantastic resource and I’m so happy to share it with you today! Check out newromepress.com to snag your copy today!
