Check out this delicious “bite-size tradition” of homemade butter for the feast of St Brigid (February 1/14).
Each month I will be releasing a new recipe to help families live out the Liturgical Year in their kitchens! The series is called “bite-size traditions” kitchen series!
St Brigid was born into a noble Irish family in the 5th century. Her family was converted by St Patrick, himself. There are many wonderful stories about St Brigid and her love for Christ and the poor. One such story is, as a young woman, she was given the responsibility to tend to the cows and dairy farm. Because of her great love for the poor, she would often give away milk and butter. She was eventually caught giving away most of their yield, and was told if she continued to give she would be punished. She continued to give away butter in secret as her Christian charity, and each time it was miraculously replenished so she did not get in trouble. At the age of 16 became a nun and continued to spread the Good News with the people of Ireland. Her Feast day is February 1st (14).
